Mayer Brown Banking & Finance partner Barbara M. Goodstein (New York) received the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association’s (ELFA) “Edward A. Groobert Award for Legal Excellence” in recognition of her “significant contributions to the equipment leasing and finance industry and the association’s Legal Committee.”

An ELFA member for more than a decade who has served on its legal committee and board of directors, Ms. Goodstein currently is a member of ELFA’s Legal Committee Subcommittee on Air, Rail and Marine. Through her presentations at the annual ELFA Legal Forums and her ELFA Equipment Leasing & Finance articles and other articles on the impact of New York law on equipment financing, Ms. Goodstein has “both effected change in the law and educated attorneys about equipment financing in New York,” the association said.

Ms. Goodstein’s experience consists of commercial and structured financing as well as restructuring of transactions for a wide range of asset types, including intellectual property, transportation equipment (including aircraft, aircraft engines, railcars and vessels), technology, medical, communications, office and construction equipment, and marine and inter-modal containers. She also has extensive debt workout and restructuring experience. Ms. Goodstein is a featured columnist for The New York Law Journal’s “Secured Transactions” section.

ELFA represents companies in the $903 billion equipment finance sector, which includes financial services companies and manufacturers engaged in financing capital goods. The award is named for former ELFA Secretary and General Counsel Edward A. Groobert, who was active in the association from the mid-1960s until his 2010 retirement.
