London - Third year undergraduate Cara Goldthorpe is the winner of this year's Targetjobs Law Undergraduate of the Year competition, sponsored by Mayer Brown. Cara was one of twelve winners to be announced at the 2015 Undergraduate of the Year Awards event held in London on 24 April.

Cara, who is studying law and French at University College London, impressed the Mayer Brown judging team at every stage of the competition and has won a place on the firm's summer vacation scheme.

Commenting on the award win Cara said: "It felt really surreal when my name was called out but I am absolutely thrilled to have won. The award is a refreshing approach to recruitment that gives recognition to the hard work that students put into their studies. I'm really looking forward to the summer scheme and the opportunity to learn more about what it is like to work at Mayer Brown."

Dominic Griffiths, Graduate Recruitment partner and Global Head of Banking & Finance at Mayer Brown, said: "We were delighted to receive so many great applications for this year's competition and it was a huge pleasure to be part of the judging team. I want to congratulate the ten students who made it to the shortlist as they were all very impressive. Cara selected a challenging presentation topic — the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and competition law changes — and the insightful way in which she approach to the subject made her stand out. We look forward to giving Cara a warm welcome when she joins our summer vacation scheme later this year."

The Targetjobs Undergraduate of the Year awards, now in its sixth year, attracts entries from more than 4,000 students from over 140 universities. Mayer Brown has sponsored the Law category for the past two consecutive years.
