Mayer Brown announced that Chicago partner Nancy Ross has been appointed to the Advisory Council of the American Benefits Council, the Washington DC-based trade association for companies concerned about federal legislation and regulations affecting all aspects of the employee benefits system. American Benefits Council members either sponsor directly or administer retirement and health plans covering more than 100 million Americans. The organization initiates and champions legislation and regulations favorable to member needs and influences policy development within Congress, the White House and executive branch agencies.
As an Advisory Council member, Ms. Ross will assist and advise the association’s Policy Board with respect to developments affecting employer-sponsored benefit plans. On an issue of importance to the association, Ms. Ross said, “I am committed to preserving the incentives Congress incorporated into ERISA [the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974] to promote private retirement security. Working closely with the American Benefits Council towards that goal will be an honor.”
A partner in Mayer Brown’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and a member of the firm’s Employment & Benefits group, Ms. Ross focuses her practice primarily on the area of employee benefits class action litigation and counseling under ERISA. She has extensive experience in counseling and representing employers, boards of directors, plan fiduciaries and trustees in matters concerning pension and welfare benefit plans. Ms. Ross’s experience includes the representation of pension plans, employee stock ownership plans, and trustees and employers concerning their administration of plan assets and fiduciary responsibilities.
