Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced that Intellectual Property partner Melissa Anyetei (Chicago) and Banking & Finance associate Nia Rasool (Charlotte) have been named to Lawyers of Color’s “Hot List,” which honors early- to mid-career minority attorneys who are excelling in the legal profession. Lawyers of Color produces publications for US lawyers of South Asian, Pacific Asian, Hispanic, Native American and African heritages and promotes the causes and contributions of minority attorneys.

Lawyers of Color Hot List honorees were chosen by a committee of editorial staff and advisers, as well as law school fellows and interns, who reviewed nominations and researched bar publications and legal blogs to identify promising candidates. Selections also were based on research that identified attorneys who had noteworthy accomplishments or were active in legal pipeline initiatives.

Ms. Anyetei focuses her practice on patent litigation, IP licensing, patent procurement and counseling. She has experience in a variety of technical disciplines including technologies involving pharmaceutical products, medical devices, telecommunications, internet-based technology, smart cards and gaming devices. Ms. Anyetei utilizes her background in engineering in connection with complex patent litigation, structuring technology-related agreements and client counseling on IP strategy. She earned a JD from Columbia Law School and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University.

Ms. Rasool advises financial institutions and investment banks on a variety of capital markets transactions, with a focus on structured finance. Her practice includes the representation of mortgage loan sellers, mortgage loan servicers and underwriters in commercial mortgage-backed securitizations and other asset-backed securitizations. Ms. Rasool earned a JD from Rutgers University School of Law and a BS from Rutgers University.
