Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced that the 2014 edition of Chambers USA ranked the firm in 52 practice categories in six geographic regions. Of these rankings, seven are top-band nationwide rankings:
- Antitrust: Cartel;
- Appellate Law, for the eighth consecutive year;
- Capital Markets: Securitization, for the seventh consecutive year;
- Outsourcing, for the eleventh consecutive year;
- Projects: PPP, for the fifth consecutive year;
- Tax: Controversy, for the ninth consecutive year; and
- Transportation: Road (Carriage/Commercial), for the tenth consecutive year.
In addition, Mayer Brown received top-band rankings in six state categories:
- Antitrust, Illinois;
- Banking & Finance, Illinois;
- Communications, Illinois;
- Litigation: General Commercial: Highly Regarded, New York;
- Technology & Outsourcing, District of Columbia; and
- Technology & Outsourcing, Illinois.
Chambers’ comments on Mayer Brown’s top-band nationwide rankings:
- Antitrust: Cartel, Nationwide – Chambers says that Mayer Brown’s “solid antitrust group possesses a wide litigation capability” and is “able to undertake civil litigation as well as criminal cartel cases across a variety of industries” while enjoying “a fine reputation for class action work.” A source quoted by the publication adds, “Their attorneys are very knowledgeable and intelligent.” Another says, “We were impressed by their professional, hands-on approach.”
- Appellate Law, Nationwide – Chambers reports that Mayer Brown is well-known for its “long-established appeals practice, with its deep bench of specialized appellate attorneys,” and that it “regularly handles Supreme Court petitions and merits cases as well as federal and state appeals court matters.” The publication notes that the firm is “particularly active on high-value commercial cases for large corporate clients.” A source adds, “Their appellate practice is first-rate, especially in the areas of drafting and strategy. I also enjoy their breadth across various issues.”
- Capital Markets: Securitization, Nationwide – Of the firm’s top-band ranking, Chambers says Mayer Brown “receives stellar market feedback for its expertise on the full array of securitization asset classes,” and that it “continues to receive particular plaudits for its work in the MBS, auto loans and leases, and whole businesses space.” A source quoted by the publication adds, “Mayer Brown has been able to come in with broad knowledge of the market and work with us to develop what works for us and our counterparties.” Another says, “They are very talented people who do an excellent job.”
- Outsourcing, Nationwide – According to Chambers, the firm “offers expertise across a broad range of outsourcing transactions as well as in niche areas such as cloud computing, facilities management, telecommunications and privacy.” The publication also notes that the team is well-known for working “with multinational companies on high-value transactions.” A source adds, “They have been very astute in finding win-win outcomes while still preserving strong relationships with our suppliers.” Another says, “Their knowledge in this area is tremendous. - Tax: Controversy, Nationwide – According to Chambers, the firm’s Tax Controversy team “specializes in assisting clients with trial and appellate litigation.
