Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced that the 2014 edition of Chambers Europe ranked the firm in 22 practice categories in five geographic regions. Of these rankings, six are top-band:
- Corporate/M&A: Mid-Market, France, for the second consecutive year;
- International Trade/WTO, Belgium;
- International Trade/WTO, Europe-Wide;
- Litigation: Highly Regarded, UK, for the fourth consecutive year;
- Private Equity: Mid-Market, France, for the sixth consecutive year; and
- Regulatory: Agro/Food, Europe-Wide.
Chambers’ comments on Mayer Brown’s top-band rankings:
Corporate/M&A: Mid-Market, France – Chambers says, “Mayer Brown is well known for advising multinational industrial corporates, financial bodies and investors on matters such as acquisitions, disposals and restructuring. The firm has a strong knowledge of private equity and venture capital.” A source quoted by the publication adds, “The partners are experts who are very technically skilled in their field.”
International Trade/WTO, Belgium and Europe-Wide – According to Chambers, “Mayer Brown is highly experienced in EU trade remedies proceedings and customs issues. The firm advises major clients on export control and sanctions regimes, and on the potential impact of broader trade policy developments.” A source adds, “Definitely at the top – the quality of the team's submissions is excellent.” Another says, “The service and support are excellent – extremely high-level, with very fast response times.”
Litigation: Highly Regarded, UK – Of the firm’s top-band ranking, Chambers says that Mayer Brown “continues to thrive in the London market as the frequent recipient of complex instructions in the banking and finance, energy and mining sectors. Its sizeable team coordinates seamlessly on a cross-border basis.” A source quoted by the publication says, “The team has depth of knowledge and understanding of our commercial position and is creative and strategic in considering alternative solutions.”
Private Equity: Mid-Market, France – Chambers says, “The firm has a strong offering for private equity transactions on both the mid-cap and high-end LBO markets.” A source adds, “We’ve been extremely happy on the transactions that Mayer Brown has helped us with this year; the contact has been very proactive and commercial and the lawyers understand what is beyond the legal clauses.” Another says, “The lawyers were precise, responsive, creative and very client-friendly in their billing practices.”
Regulatory: Agro/Food, Europe-Wide – Chambers notes, “Mayer Brown assists clients with regulatory law in the environmental sector, most notably on REACH, biocides, nanotechnologies, food packaging, and product safety and liability issues. The firm has strong links to the European institutions and the governing bodies in member states.”
