Mayer Brown has received two awards at the inaugural Asian Lawyer All-Star Legal Awards 2014: the firm’s Real Estate practice received the All Star Award for Real Estate, while partner Nathan Dodd was named an individual All-Star for Infrastructure. Mayer Brown was also a shortlisted finalist for the Energy Award.

The award for the Mayer Brown Real Estate team further confirms its position as a Band 1 practice; it has regularly been ranked as such by leading legal directories such as Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

In Asia, the Real Estate practice has around 150 members, including 26 partners, and advises nearly all of the Hang Seng Index’s properties constituents and more than half of the REITS in Hong Kong.

The practice was recently named Asia Law Firm of the Year (Transactions) at the 2013 Global PERE Awards by leading private equity real estate magazine PERE for having advised on a total of US$2.5 billion worth of private equity real estate transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Nathan Dodd joined Mayer Brown in 2012 to start a new project practice for Southeast Asia, and together with colleagues in Singapore, Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, has built an established internationally recommended practice advising clients on the development and finance side of projects in Asia.

Nathan is head of the Projects Group in South East Asia and co-head of the Energy Group in Asia. He is currently leading a team advising a power company and its sponsors on all aspects of the development and financing of a gas-fired power project in Myanmar and the lenders on a petrochemicals project in Indonesia.

“This award reflects the hard work of the team to raise the profile of our Infrastructure practice, especially for complex power and petrochemicals projects,” said Nathan. "The fact that this has been achieved in less than 18 months is remarkable. Being a finalist for the Energy Award also reflects the great work done by our oil and gas teams, especially in the LNG transportation sector which Mayer Brown has dominated for more than two decades.”

The winners of Asian Lawyer All-Star Legal Awards are chosen by the editorial staff of The Asian Lawyer in consultation with the editors of its US affiliates, The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel. The awards cover nine categories and from each sector two individuals are named an All-Star.
