Mayer Brown today announced that it has been awarded Asia Law Firm of the Year (Transactions) at the 2013 Global PERE Awards – recognition for its having advised on a total of US$2.5 billion worth of private equity real estate transactions in the Asia-Pacific region last year, with most deals centred on greater China. Winners were selected by votes cast worldwide by over 50,000 readers of leading industry publication PERE magazine and registered users of PERENews.com.

PERE said of Mayer Brown, “The law firm turned heads acting for various international institutions on large mixed-use, office and development transactions on the mainland, including some of the country’s largest deals to date.”

David Ellis, who leads the private equity real estate Practice, said, “We are pleased to be recognised as a leader in our field. We have long been recognised as a firm that represents property developers and it is nice to now also have recognition for being a market leader representing funds and other institutional investors. I would like to thank the voters for their support, and our clients for choosing to work with us.”

In Asia, the Real Estate practice has around 150 members, including 26 partners, and advises nearly all of the Hang Seng Index’s properties constituents and more than half of the REITS in Hong Kong. It recently received the All Star Award for Real Estate from The Asian Lawyer, chosen by the editorial staff of The Asian Lawyer in consultation with the editors of its US affiliates, The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel. It is currently ranked Band 1 by leading legal directory Chambers & Partners Asia Pacific and Tier 1 by Legal 500.
