London - Leading global law firm Mayer Brown has advised GA Europe, the retail restructuring specialist, on the sale of multichannel footwear specialist Shoon, to Ken Bartle and Peter Phillips. Mayer Brown also advised GA Europe when they supported a buy-out by Shoon’s management team out of administration in May 2012, providing funding for working capital, as well as taking a direct stake in the equity.

Bartle and Phillips have now acquired all of GA’s interest in Shoon, including its debt.

Shoon operates 10 stores in Bath, Brighton, Cheltenham, Guildford, Kingston-upon-Thames, Reading, Salisbury, St Albans, Tunbridge Wells and Winchester. It also has a significant online business.

Ashley Katz, co-head of the Restructuring, Bankruptcy and Insolvency, at Mayer Brown said: "Having advised GA Europe on the acquisition phase of this transaction, we are delighted to have helped them with this phase too.”

The Mayer Brown team was led by Ashley Katz, co-head of the Restructuring, Bankruptcy and Insolvency team and included Corporate and Securities partner Kate Ball-Dodd and senior associate Michelle Wyatt; and Restructuring, Bankruptcy and Insolvency senior associate Jessica Walker and associate Henry Glen.

Mayer Brown has advised on a number of retail administrations during the downturn, including having acted for the administrators of Comet, Ethel Austin and Suits You.
