Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced today that it has launched Class Defense (, a blog providing up-to-date analysis of the latest trends in the law governing class actions. (You can also follow the blog on Twitter @classdefense.) The blog will also cover legislative and regulatory developments important to class actions and other forms of aggregate litigation against businesses.

The co-editors of the blog are Archis Parasharami, co-chair of the firm’s Consumer Litigation & Class Actions practice; and Kevin Ranlett, a partner in that practice, both resident in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Other regular contributors to the blog are Mayer Brown lawyers who have handled a wide array of complex class action litigation matters, and speak and write frequently on class action issues, including Andy Pincus, Evan Tager, John Nadolenco, Don Falk and Josh Yount.

“In recent years, the Supreme Court and appellate courts have shown increased interest in class actions, and the law in this area is rapidly changing. In-house lawyers need to keep track of these changes to manage litigation against their companies effectively. Our blog will help readers stay informed about important developments in the class action arena,” said Mr. Parasharami.

Mr. Ranlett agreed, noting: “The strength of Mayer Brown’s class action defense team, as well as its broad range of litigation specialties, such as antitrust, employment, consumer protection, privacy and securities litigation, uniquely position us to provide blog readers with commentary on the critical class action issues facing them today.”

Law360 named Mayer Brown’s class action defense practice a 2012 “Class Action Practice of the Year” in recognition of the firm’s overall approach to class actions and its notable achievements in several widely-publicized recent cases, including a major victory for businesses that use consumer arbitration in AT&T Mobility v. Concepcion. Also in 2012, The American Lawyer recognized Mayer Brown’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice as one of the top six US litigation departments in its prestigious “Litigation Department of the Year” report.
