London - Leading global law firm Mayer Brown has appointed the award-winning, former Head of Legal Services at De Beers to the EU Antitrust & Competition group in London as Of Counsel.

Merlie Calvert is a EU and UK qualified competition lawyer (she qualified with SJ Berwin in 1999) and has substantial experience in antitrust matters affecting market leading companies and related regulatory/litigation matters. She also has extensive experience in dispute resolution, brand protection, corporate/commercial practice and risk management.

Merlie was recruited by leading diamond company De Beers in 2002 as their first ever competition counsel and became their Head of Legal Services for the Northern Hemisphere in 2004. In 2006, she joined the executive board of De Beers' newly established international marketing business as their Commercial Director.
