Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, has been named by the online legal publication Law360 as a “Practice Group of the Year” for 2011 in the Appellate, Class Action and Environmental categories. The award recognizes selected firms for the significance, size, complexity and number of matters on which they worked.

“Much of Mayer Brown’s success on the appellate level can be traced to its ‘big gun’ approach,” Law360 said, with “approximately 50 appellate lawyers spread across the country that have argued approximately 220 cases before the Supreme Court, including 13 in the three most recent terms.” The publication also discussed Mayer Brown’s 2011 Supreme Court win in AT&T Mobility v. Concepcion, characterizing it as a case that “turned the world of consumer class action law on its head.” (View article)

also cited Concepcion as a key factor in choosing Mayer Brown as a winner in the Class Action category, along with a recent win for American Honda Motor Company. “Mayer Brown’s class action group is widely dispersed throughout the firm’s US offices, but the team is set up to cooperate with one another regardless of geographic boundaries, as well as leverage the expertise of Mayer Brown attorneys who work in other areas,” the publication said. Mayer Brown’s selection in the Environmental category was driven by the firm’s success in tackling “cutting edge issues” for Dow Chemical Co. “The practice group carries out its goal of providing effective cross-disciplinary work for clients ranging from chemical manufacturers to environmental trade associations by supplementing the firm’s 25 full-time environmental lawyers…with more than 60 lawyers from other practice areas,” Law360 noted.
