Mr. de Bernier, who  joined Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office in 1999, returns  there after several years in the UK, where he was a partner in the London office’s US Corporate & Securities practice. He serves a range of US and international clients, including in the UK  and India, and has experience advising US clients doing business abroad and non-US clients investing in the US. He also is co-leader of Mayer Brown’s India practice group and a member of the Emerging Markets group. He has lived in India and is fluent in Hindi.
Mr. de Bernier’s practice focuses on equity and debt capital markets, cross-border M&A and other corporate transactions, including joint ventures, restructurings and private equity and venture capital. He also advises management and boards on corporate governance and regulatory matters and assists companies with their international operations. A significant part of his practice focuses on renewable energy.
“Paul’s deep experience in a wide range of corporate and securities matters and his international perspective make him a unique resource for California clients and clients looking to do business in California,” said Phil Recht, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office. “He will enable us to broaden the range of services we offer to clients throughout the state and beyond.”

Said Mr. de Bernier, “My experience in California and Europe, together with the firm’s strong global footprint, equips us to assist the growing number of companies in California whose businesses and operations  are increasingly linked to the global economy and cut across borders. I also look forward to working with companies in India and other international markets that are seeking to expand their business in California or the US generally.”

Mr. de Bernier received his JD from the UCLA School of Law and his BA and LLM from the University of London.
