28 May 2010 - Leading international law firm Mayer Brown announced today the hire of a new Finance partner to its London office to strengthen its Derivatives & Structured Products practice, as part of its ongoing strategic growth plans for London. This follows six Finance partner hires made by the London office in the last twelve months.

Chris Arnold will join the firm as a partner on 1 June 2010 from Allen & Overy, where he worked for eight years in the Magic Circle firm's International Capital Markets practice, both in London and New York. He is dual-qualified in English and New York law, and has deep expertise across a broad range of OTC derivatives and structured products, as well as strong relationships with many of the firm's closest clients.

Sean Connolly, London senior partner at Mayer Brown, said:
"Chris' appointment marks the next phase in our commitment to building a top city Finance practice, following six other Finance partner hires in the last 12 months alone. We have strong Derivatives & Structured Products practice globally which is led by Edmund Parker and Josh Cohn and are delighted that Chris will further strengthen the offering for our clients."

Edmund Parker, global co-head of Derivatives & Structured Products at Mayer Brown, said: "Chris is an exceptional technical lawyer, with excellent client relationships on both sides of the Atlantic.  Chris will give our Derivatives & Structured Products practice depth that few firms can offer."

Chris Arnold added:
"I am very excited to be joining Mayer Brown at a pivotal time for the derivatives industry. The firm’s global strength, its stellar client base and its proven commitment to building the Derivatives & Structured Products practice were particularly attractive to me."

Chris has advised on numerous complex derivatives issues for leading investment banks. He has also been involved in many high profile industry initiatives including advising the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) on the "Big Bang" and "Small Bang" Protocols for credit derivatives.

Chris's appointment further strengthens Mayer Brown's Derivatives & Structured Products practice globally. The appointment follows the promotion of London partner Edmund Parker, who was named co-head of the global Derivatives & Structured Products practice in February.  At the same time, the firm also appointed Josh Cohn, one of the foremost international derivatives specialists, to the New York office as co-head of the practice.
