17 May 2010 - Leading international law firm Mayer Brown has advised new client Colt Telecommunications on the £49 million acquisition of one of the largest single site data centres in the UK.
Colt, a provider of business communications and IT managed services across 13 countries, and one of the Fidelity group of companies, purchased the data centre via the acquisition of shares in a property holding vehicle owned by a consortium of private investors. The data centre, located in Welwyn Garden City, was acquired by Colt as part of their strategy to become Europe’s leading information delivery platform. It includes significant new space which Colt intends to make available to new customers immediately.
The cross practice team from Mayer Brown’s London office was led by Real Estate partner James Dodsworth with support from Corporate partner Michael Wallin and associates Vicky Matthews and Andrew Hepner.
James Dodsworth, Real Estate partner at Mayer Brown, said: “The data centre market has held up well against other real estate asset classes in recent times. Colt approached us to utilise the experience of our specialist data centre team and we now look forward to developing a long term relationship with them as they develop this side of their business”.
