6 August 2009 - Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced today that Duane-David Hough has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property practice as a partner in the New York office.  He comes to Mayer Brown from Fish & Richardson and is the fourth partner added to the IP practice in New York and Washington since June.

Mr. Hough is a senior patent litigator with more than 20 years of litigation and trial experience for many high-profile technology clients.  He has been lead counsel in major patent litigations across a wide range of industries, including the pharmaceutical, chemical, biotech and electronics industries.  Among Duane’s most notable accomplishments in patent litigation is his membership on the Polaroid trial team that recovered nearly $1 billion from Kodak, an award that remains the largest amount ever paid for patent infringement.

"Duane-David is an exceptional addition to the group who brings significant patent litigation and trial experience for high-tech and electronics companies as well as branded pharmaceutical companies engaged in Hatch-Waxman litigation,” said A. John P. Mancini, co-firmwide practice leader of Mayer Brown’s IP practice.  “His experience, along with that of the recent additions of partners Dennis Mondolino and Lisa Ferri in New York, and Gary Hnath in Washington, D.C., will allow us to provide our IP clients with comprehensive legal assistance across many industries.”

Added Richard A. Spehr, Partner-in-Charge of Mayer Brown’s New York office, “Duane is the eighth partner to join the New York office this year.  His arrival demonstrates the firm’s commitment to expanding the depth and breadth of the New York office and the service offerings we can provide our clients across industries and around the world.”

In commenting on his reasons for joining Mayer Brown, Mr. Hough said, “Mayer Brown’s global platform and its longstanding reputation among pharmaceutical and technology companies made it an ideal choice for me to grow my practice and the firm’s capabilities.  I look forward to working with the firm’s outstanding team of IP and other litigators.”

Over the course of his long and distinguished career, Mr. Hough has successfully represented technology clients such as AT&T, Allied-Signal, Bombardier, Cephalon, Inc, CIMA Labs, Inc., Corning, DuPont, Exxon Chemical, Gentex, Hunter-Douglas, Hewlett-Packard, Lucent Technologies, Philips Electronics, Polaroid, Procter & Gamble Company, Purdue Pharma and Schering-Plough Corporation in major patent litigations and/or trials.

Mr. Hough holds a bachelors degree in biochemistry from the University of Connecticut and he received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame.   Since 1996 he has served as an adjunct faculty member for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and served as the vice-chair of the Intellectual Property Owners Damages Committee from 2006-2007.
