17 February 2009 - Leading international law firm Mayer Brown has announced the promotion of Ian McDonald as the new head of restructuring, bankruptcy and insolvency (RBI) for the London office. The promotion takes immediate effect.

The firm has seen a marked rise in restructuring and insolvency instructions of increased complexity and international reach in the deteriorating economic conditions, and has appointed Ian as dedicated head of RBI to lead this practice in London in response to this new environment.

David Allen and Ian Coles previously acted as joint heads of RBI in London as part of their existing roles as head of litigation and one of the global finance practice leaders (respectively), roles which they retain.

Ian, who has been in the RBI team since 1991 and a partner since 1998, heads up a group of 8 partners and 17 associates. They are experts in all aspects of restructuring and insolvency work, both contentious and non-contentious, including refinancings, consensual and non-consensual workouts and the use of formal insolvency regimes (such as administrations, receiverships, liquidations, company voluntary arrangements and schemes of arrangement).The practice advises financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, corporate debtors and creditors, company directors, insurers and pension scheme trustees. Much of the team's work is cross-border and Mayer Brown's recent combination with leading Asian law firm JSM has further extended this capability.
