Mayer Brown LLP is advising waste services company Allied Waste Industries Inc (NYSE: AW) in its merger announced today with competitor Republic Services Inc (NYSE: RSG). This transaction unites the No. 2 and No. 3 U.S. waste haulers to create a company with a combined enterprise value of more than $20 billion. The combined companies would have revenue of $9.3 billion. Allied operates in 37 states and Puerto Rico and has about 10 million customers. Republic is active in 21 states, operating primarily in the Midwest and Southeast. Together, the companies would own 228 landfills and 86 recycling facilities.
