Firm helps children’s dance instructor recover unpaid wages

Share

Mayer Brown secured payment in full of unpaid wages on behalf of a pro bono client. Through the firm’s ongoing relationship with Lawyers for the Creative Arts, Restructuring associate Josh Gross and counsel Craig Reimer represented a children’s dance instructor in her claim for more than one year of unpaid wages for her work at a Chicago dance studio. The studio owner had repeatedly promised to pay the amount owed, but, until Mayer Brown got involved, the payments were not forthcoming and the owner eventually stopped communicating with the instructor. The client was on the verge of filing a small claims action against the studio when Mayer Brown agreed to take her case, even though she would not have been able to recover the full amount of her damages.

Josh and Craig stepped in and negotiated a settlement and payment schedule pursuant to which the full amount of the unpaid wages would be paid back over the course of less than one year, with a significant percentage of the unpaid amount paid up front. The client has now been fully paid without the expense and stress of having to litigate her claim.
