David Harrison joins Mayer Brown JSM as consultant in Ho Chi Minh City

1 July 2013

Mayer Brown JSM today announced that David Harrison has joined the Ho Chi Minh City office as a consultant. David is a well-regarded practitioner in finance and M&A and brings significant experience in advising multilateral and commercial lenders, agents, developers, investment banks, and private equity investors on a broad range of high profile transactions in Vietnam and other Asian jurisdictions, including representing the lending syndicate on the first Tier 2 Capital financing in Vietnam, the lead investor in the $1.5 billion Mong Duong 2 financing, and a high profile equity investment of European investors in a Sri Lankan insurance company. David’s experience spans bank and project financing, as well as equity and hybrid investments. He also has wealth of experience in restructuring and insolvency work, and recently authored an article published in the International Financial Law Review on the stress of non-performing loans on restructurings in Vietnam.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown JSM, David worked at international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Vietnam, with five years of experience working as an attorney in New York and over three years practising in Vietnam. He also worked in Ho Chi Minh City as a diplomat for two years and speaks Vietnamese, Spanish, and French.

John Marsden, Partner-in-Charge of Vietnam, welcomes David’s arrival: “David’s on-the-ground experience as a lawyer in Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia with a background in banking, project finance, and corporate transactions is invaluable to the group. His knowledge in finance and projects will further bolster our expanding Projects practice in the region, following the recent arrivals of consultants Ben Thompson in Singapore and Quynh-Anh Lam in Vietnam. We are delighted to have him on board.”

David received both a J.D. and L.L.M. from Duke University School of Law in North Carolina and his bachelor of science degree, Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service in Washington DC. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 2000.
