Mayer Brown named “Law Firm of the Year” by Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto
3 June 2013
Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, has been named “Law Firm of the Year” by Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (CLSEPA) for providing significant pro bono legal counsel to CLSEPA clients during the past year. CLSEPA offers legal assistance to low-income residents in East Palo Alto and surrounding communities in the areas of housing, immigration, anti-predatory lending, consumer protection and civil litigation. Mayer Brown has provided pro bono legal support to CLSEPA since 2009.
Mayer Brown was recognized for its work in helping five illegal immigrants who were victims of serious violent crimes to apply for and obtain U-Visas, which grant temporary legal status in return for victims’ cooperation in helping authorities investigate crimes and prosecute suspects. U-Visas enable the community to take important steps toward eliminating violence by encouraging victims to come forward, regardless of their immigration status.
“We thank Mayer Brown for its exceptional work on behalf of the East Palo Alto community,” said Phil Hwang, Executive Director of CLSEPA. “The participation of Mayer Brown’s partners and senior associates in pro bono cases has made a tremendous difference in delivering the best possible outcomes to our clients.”
