Three Mayer Brown lawyers recognized as 2013 “Client Service All-Stars” by BTI Consulting Group

Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced that three lawyers have been named “Client Service All-Stars” by BTI Consulting Group in the 2013 edition: Financial Services Regulatory & Enforcement partner Alex C. Lakatos (Washington, DC); Corporate & Securities partner David A. Schuette (Chicago); and former Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Thomas M. Durkin (Chicago), who now serves as a district judge in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
This year’s Client Service All-Stars honored 307 US attorneys across all practice areas, and winners were determined by unprompted recommendations from more than 240 corporate counsel from Fortune 1000 and other large companies. Criteria included client focus, exceptional understanding of the client’s business, outsized value, legal skills and outstanding results.
BTI commended the winners for their “commitment to client service and ability to surpass the needs and expectations of the world’s most demanding clients” and lauded them for “standing above all others in the eyes of clients.”
Alex C. Lakatos focuses his practice on complex international litigation, particularly on behalf of non-US financial institutions. He also counsels financial institutions on banking and securities regulatory, enforcement, legislative, and strategic issues. In addition, Mr. Lakatos advises clients on avoiding litigation and provides related regulatory advice in areas such as the USA Patriot Act, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, anti money laundering compliance, and OFAC sanctions and assists clients with internal investigations. He earned a JD as class valedictorian from the University of California, Hastings College of Law and received a BA from the University of Maryland. Mr. Lakatos is co-chair of Mayer Brown’s Pro Bono Committee.
David A. Schuette concentrates on securities and corporate work. He regularly advises public companies in a variety of industries on SEC compliance matters and corporate governance issues. In addition, he represents issuers, underwriters and selling stockholders in various types of equity offerings, including common stock, ADRs and limited partnership units, and various types of debt offerings, including mortgage bonds, convertible debt, investment grade and high-yield debt, as well as equipment trust pass-through certificates. Mr. Schuette also represents issuers and investment banks in connection with debt tender offers, consent solicitations and other liability management transactions. Mr. Schuette holds a JD cum laude from The University of Michigan Law School and an AB cum laude from Georgetown University.
