Brand Enforcement on the Internet: Strategies for 2016 and Beyond
Gabriela opened the seminar with welcoming remarks and introduced Brian to the audience. Brian explained the different elements of brand protection on the Internet, including domain name and social media strategies and Gabriela provided a brief overview of the domain name landscape in Asia. Brian introduced the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and ICANN’s new Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) Programme, which was developed to increase competition and choice in the domain name space, and took the audience through a discussion on domain name rights protections mechanisms including the Trademark Clearinghouse, Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS), Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), and anti-cybersquatting and trade mark infringement legislation as well as brand owner strategies for addressing enforcement in the new gTLD space.
Brian also looked at the importance of social media policies and sensitivities surrounding social media enforcement, and the value of proactive online brand engagement, before he was joined by Gabriela to wrap up the roundtable with a Q&A session.
