European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition discloses its Manual of Antitrust Procedures

The European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition has recently published a non-confidential version of the manual used by its staff in relation to procedures for cartel and monopoly cases. The internal document complements the Best Practices for antitrust procedures which were released in October 2011. Both documents are made public following increasing calls for greater transparency about the Commission’s procedure.

In this 30 minute teleconference, Mayer Brown’s antitrust partners Kiran Desai and Jens Peter Schmidt discuss key elements in the manual’s 270 pages which include leniency applications, information gathering, statement of objections, access to file, and right to be heard.
