Mayer Brown JSM partner Betty Tam represented the Hong Kong Law Society in delivering a seminar entitled Outbound Investment in North America at the Annual SmartHK Conference on 28 May. The conference was organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at the Jinan International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Shandong, People's Republic of China.
Betty's presentation included:
- A glance of China outbound investment in North America and across the world
- Typical life cycle of making investment in North America
- Key legal issues facing the Chinese investors in North America and solutions to the problems
- Hong Kong and Hong Kong counsels’ roles in the North America M&As
The seminar concluded with an interactive panel discussion followed by a networking luncheon which was attended by the Ministry of Commerce and Shandong government officials as well as representatives of local companies.
Following the previous success since 2011, SmartHK aims to connect Hong Kong’s service providers with potential clients on the Chinese mainland, including the manufacturing and retail sectors. The event also offers an opportunity to grasp first-hand information of the mainland market and expand business networks.
