Matter selected in “Global Finance Deal of the Year: Capital Markets” category
Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, advised on the transaction that The American Lawyer named “Global Finance Deal of the Year: Capital Markets (Worldwide)” as part of its second annual Global Legal Awards, which honor legal teams that “played a substantial role in the most distinguished cross-border work performed between Jan. 1, 2013, and April 14, 2014, across a wide range of disciplines,” according to the publication. Mayer Brown advised Morgan Stanley as sole structuring advisor and also as joint book runner on the $1 billion Trade MAPS 2013-1 trade receivables securitization. The deal represents the first-ever multi-bank term asset-backed/capital markets financing of trade finance assets.
The American Lawyer said the Trade MAPS program satisfied “yield-hungry investors searching for new kinds of assets, and banks eager to move obligations off their balance sheets.”
The Mayer Brown team included lawyers from the firm’s Banking & Finance, Tax Transactions & Consulting and Employment & Benefits practices in Chicago, Charlotte and New York and was led by Chicago Banking & Finance partners Stuart Litwin and Ger Patrick O’Donnell.
The American Lawyer received nearly 300 nominations for the Global Legal Awards. The magazine covers legal business, law firms and lawyers across the US and around the world.
