Cybersecurity Act of 2012–Navigating Difficulties and Mitigating Risks for Owners and Operators of Critical Infrastructure

The need to protect critical infrastructure and networks from cyber attacks continues to receive significant attention. High-profile cyber attacks and data breaches have led to new cybersecurity measures and discussions around the world about the appropriate baseline cybersecurity protections for critical infrastructure owners and operators.

In the United States, the proposed Cybersecurity Act of 2012 would require owners and operators of critical infrastructure to implement, and certify compliance with, cybersecurity measures instituted by the Department of Homeland Security and other relevant agencies, as well as to possibly submit to government or third-party assessments.

Please join partner Howard Waltzman as he discusses these proposed measures, which aim to improve cyber security in the United States, and their effects on owners and operators of critical infrastructure. The topics to be covered during the webinar include:

  • What are the major requirements of the proposed cybersecurity legislation?
  • Why do policymakers believe that legislation is necessary?
  • What is covered “critical infrastructure” and what are the proposed requirements and exemptions?
  • How might these bills impact industry, and are such impacts being considered?
