US Sanctions and the Derivatives Market: Emerging Issues

The recent rounds of US sanctions relating to the crisis in Ukraine have raised many questions for the global derivatives market. Please join Mayer Brown partners Chris Arnold (London), Josh Cohn (New York), and Simeon Kriesberg (Washington DC) as they address such questions as:

  • What is the scope of the current US sanctions relating to the situation in Ukraine and what might happen next?
  • How might the sanctions affect existing derivatives transactions under ISDA agreements where a counterparty has become a sanctions target?
  • Could derivatives transactions referencing sanctioned entities also be subject to the sanctions and, if so, how?
  • What should market participants do to comply with the sanctions?
