Mayer Brown partners Paul Hughes and Michael Kimberly named “DC Rising Stars” by The National Law Journal

31 August 2017

Mayer Brown announced that Supreme Court & Appellate partners Paul Hughes and Michael Kimberly have been selected as 2017 “DC Rising Stars” by The National Law Journal (NLJ). The awards recognize Washington DC’s most promising lawyers under the age of 40 who have outsized influence in their practice areas in the DC area and beyond.

In a NLJ profile, Mr. Hughes said his biggest accomplishment in practice was arguing Ross v. Blake before the US Supreme Court, where he re-conceptualized the central issues in the case and orchestrated an unexpected victory. He focuses his practice at Mayer Brown on briefing and arguing complex appeals, as well as developing legal strategy for trial litigation. (View Mr. Hughes’ NLJ profile.)

The NLJ recognized Mr. Kimberly’s 9-0 victory in the US Supreme Court in a Maryland redistricting case — one of his biggest wins. As a result of the victory, the Court may eventually curb the practice of partisan gerrymandering. At Mayer Brown, Mr. Kimberly briefs and argues complex appeals and trial-court motions, with a primary focus on antitrust, environmental and constitutional law. (View Mr. Kimberly’s NLJ profile.)
