Take-a-parent-to-work day: The new parental leave system and other challenges

Please join us for our final seminar of 2014 and help us to celebrate this year’s series of training sessions with a party.

Our topic is shared parental leave and flexible working. The new shared parental leave scheme is part of the government’s drive to promote shared parenting, and will be available in respect of children due to be born (or placed for adoption) on or after 5 April 2015. So, employees announcing that they (or their partner) are expecting a baby could well be eligible for the new leave, meaning it is something that employers need to get to grips with sooner rather than later. Our aim is to offer practical advice on how employers can deal with the new regulations and the changes to the flexible working landscape.
In the seminar we will look at issues such as:

  • Who is eligible for shared parental leave?
  • What will be the impact on the current system of maternity leave, additional paternity leave and parental leave?
  • Should you offer enhanced pay to those on shared parental leave?
  • Can employers prioritise certain requests for flexible working?
  • How to put flexible working into practice

We are delighted to be joined by Dr Siobhan Martin, Mercer’s UK Executive Director responsible for HR. Siobhan will talk to us about what Mercer does to embrace flexibility in the workplace, and share her own experiences of flexible working in practice.

After the seminar, we hope you will join us for drinks, canapés and live music.

As always, we welcome your questions. If you have an issue on this topic which you would like considered, please let us know by completing the “Ask a Question” section when you register.

Also, we would be grateful if you could answer a short anonymous survey about your plans in relation to shared parental leave pay, the results of which will be discussed during the seminar.
