Mayer Brown honored with pro bono and community service award from Higher Achievement

8 June 2017

Mayer Brown received The Green Apple Award from Higher Achievement at its recent graduation ceremony. The award is given annually to an organization that has demonstrated “incredible commitment” to the success of the Higher Achievement scholars. The award was accepted by Mayer Brown partner Richard Ben-Veniste and operations manager Tonie Davis (both Washington DC), both of whom have been actively involved for many years with the Higher Achievement program.

Noting Mayer Brown’s deep commitment to pro bono and community service activities, Higher Achievement recognized Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office for launching “Making the Case for Kids,” a multidimensional community service and pro bono campaign aimed at supporting children and education.

“Mayer Brown’s impact is immeasurable,” Higher Achievement said at the event. Since 2009, Mayer Brown has offered numerous opportunities for Higher Achievement scholars and alumni, including hosting the firm’s mock career trial and career day, orchestrating summer field trips, hosting staff retreats, recruiting alumni as interns, serving on the President’s Council, supporting the Window of Opportunity breakfast and sponsoring the Higher Achievement annual gala.

Higher Achievement is a national organization that provides students the best opportunities to succeed in school and life. From fifth through eighth grade, Higher Achievement scholars spend 650 hours a year learning an advanced curriculum that is aligned with state standards. In addition to extensive academic support, Higher Achievement scholars are coached and mentored in areas of creative expression, communication and personal leadership.
