Mayer Brown launches global book addressing HR issues arising from mergers and acquisitions

16 November 2012

Leading global law firm Mayer Brown today launches Employment Issues on a Transfer of Business – A Global Overview, addressing the various HR issues that are likely to arise when businesses are merged or acquired. The 198-page guide covers 40 different jurisdictions and answers questions such as:

  • Is there any legislation providing for the automatic “transfer” of employees from the seller to buyer in an asset sale situation?
  • What are the seller’s legal obligations on “transferring” its employees?
  • Does the seller’s employee have a right not to be transferred to the buyer?

Nick Robertson, head of the London Employment group, said: "Increasing globalization of businesses has resulted in more deals involving employees in multiple jurisdictions. We hope that this book will aide businesses as they encounter the challenges that arise in almost every transfer of a business and answer the common questions that keep HR professionals involved in an M&A awake at night."

The book follows the recent launch of the UK employment law podcast series which informs clients about important legal developments and trends that affect their business, and enable employers to be on top of the opportunities offered by change as well as the challenges. The fortnightly episodes are available to download from iTunes.
