Mayer Brown appointed by The Royal British Legion as its pro bono counsel

28 October 2014
London - Mayer Brown, the global law firm, is pleased to announce that it has been appointed as pro bono counsel to The Royal British Legion. Led by London construction partner, Jonathan Hosie, the firm will provide support to the legal and risk management functions of the UK's biggest Armed Forces charity — pro bono — across a wide range of legal matters, spanning intellectual property, commercial agreements and pensions to real estate, litigation and construction.

The Royal British Legion provides a range of support to serving members of the Armed Forces, and ex-service men and women. It is also the custodian of Remembrance and runs one of the best known campaigns in the world, the Poppy Appeal. Whilst Mayer Brown has worked with The Royal British Legion for several years, as the charity's first pro bono counsel the firm will work across its full range of matters. In addition, as part of its community volunteering programme, the firm has provided a team of volunteer collectors at Liverpool Street Station for the annual Poppy Appeal for many years.

Commenting on the appointment, Jonathan Hosie said: "The Royal British Legion is one of the UK's most well known charities and having worked with them personally for several years now I was delighted to have the opportunity to build an even closer relationship through the pro bono partnership."

Luke Joannou, General Counsel at The Royal British Legion commented: "I am delighted Mayer Brown, as a highly respected international law firm, will now act for the Legion on a pro-bono basis across our entire portfolio of work. We will use their invaluable support to enhance the work of our legal function, provide expertise where we don’t have the in-house capability and aid the Legion in achieving our charitable objectives."
