Mayer Brown advises The Hartford on acquisition of Aetna’s US group life and disability business

Mayer Brown represented The Hartford on its agreement to acquire Aetna’s US group life and disability business for $1.45 billion. The acquisition makes The Hartford the second largest group life and disability insurer with approximately $5 billion in expected earned premium. The transaction was structured as reinsurance on an indemnity basis along with the transfer of industry-leading digital assets and an integrated absence management platform. In addition, approximately 1800 Aetna group insurance employees nationwide will be joining The Hartford.
