Mayer Brown JSM partner Jonathan Mok granted Higher Rights of Audience (HRA) exemption

11 April 2014
Mayer Brown JSM today announced that partner Jonathan Mok has been granted Higher Rights of Audience (HRA) in respect of civil proceedings by way of exemption by the Higher Rights Assessment Board in Hong Kong. The exemption will allow Jonathan to represent his clients as advocate, similar to a barrister all the way up to the Court of Final Appeal in Hong Kong.

Mayer Brown JSM partners Nick Hunsworth and Richard Tollan were granted the same honour in 2013.

The enactment of the Legal Practitioners (Amendment) Bill 2009, which came into force in 2012 has allowed lawyers with relevant experience to apply to the Higher Rights Assessment Board by way of exemption for HRA in Hong Kong.

“I am very much honoured to have received the exemption. Our clients will now have more options on who to appoint and possibly save more on legal fees,” said Jonathan.

Jonathan has over 20 years of experience advising clients on high-profile criminal, big-money matrimonial and assets tracing/debt recovery litigation. He is also an accredited family mediator of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre as well as the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association.
