Legislation May Affect US Reviews of Foreign Investments

Calls to increase scrutiny of foreign investment in the United States have gained strength in the US Congress, and now there are several proposals for changes to the multi-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”). The CFIUS reviews foreign acquisitions of US businesses for threats to national security. This Legal Update discusses these proposals, which would have important consequences for foreign investors and US businesses alike.
