Mayer Brown named a Law360 “Firm of the Year” for second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year, Mayer Brown has been named a 2017 “Firm of the Year” by Law360 on the basis of its victories in eight “Practice Group of the Year” categories, including Appellate, Banking, Class Actions, Consumer Protection, Food & Beverage, Intellectual Property, Project Finance and Tax. The award recognizes three law firms that “brought value to their clients and made their mark in the legal industry by realizing their strengths and drawing on multidisciplinary practice areas to generate a wide list of achievements.”

  • Appellate – Over the last year, Mayer Brown’s Supreme Court & Appellate practice tallied up an impressive series of wins, landing a spot among Law360’s 2017 Appellate Groups of the Year for the second consecutive year. In a profile, the publication highlighted two of the firm’s victories in the US Supreme Court, including Kindred Nursing Centers v. Clark and Impression Products v. Lexmark, as well as significant circuit court decisions in favor of high-profile clients such as Google, Wells Fargo and CitiMortgage. (View article.) 
  • Banking – Utilizing a collaborative approach among the firm’s litigation and transaction lawyers, Mayer Brown’s Banking & Finance practice continued to notch courtroom victories and handle mega-sized transactions for some of the world’s largest financial institutions over the last year, Law360 said, picking up its third consecutive Banking Groups of the Year award.   • Class Action – Capitalizing on recent landmark victories at the US Supreme Court, Mayer Brown’s Consumer Litigation & Class Actions practice was a leader in the arena yet again in 2017. The firm fended off class actions for some of the most recognizable brands in the world and advanced case law to prevent frivolous class actions, which landed the firm among the publication’s 2017 Class Action Groups of the Year for the second consecutive year.   • Consumer Protection – Mayer Brown was named one of the publication’s Consumer Protection Groups of the Year for building on its landmark US Supreme Court victory for Spokeo, which continues to shape cases nationwide.   • Food & Beverage – In 2017, Mayer Brown secured wins on behalf of big-name clients in high-profile false advertising and Lanham Act cases, securing the firm’s second consecutive honor as a Food & Beverage group of the year.   • Intellectual Property – Mayer Brown’s Intellectual Property practice was honored with Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year award for securing a victory in the US Supreme Court decision Impression Products v. Lexmark, a major win for Impression Products and companies in the secondary market for patented products, as well as scoring numerous wins for the firm’s high-tech and life sciences clients.   • Project Finance – Mayer Brown was named a Project Finance Group of the Year by Law360 for its overall expansion and resilience in infrastructure projects, such as advising lenders on a first-of-its-kind power project in Myanmar and role in the unique financing plan for the modernization of Chicago’s train lines.   • Tax – A global heavyweight in the transactional and litigation spheres, Law360 said Mayer Brown was a “shoo-in” for the publication’s 2017 Tax Groups of the Year after guiding several multibillion-dollar transactions, including a major Canadian bank’s expansion in the US and one of last year’s largest IPOs, and securing high-profile wins in tax court on behalf of firm clients.
