Kristine Koren joins Mayer Brown as partner in New York

5 March 2018
Mayer Brown announced today that Kristine M. Koren, a highly regarded private fund formation lawyer, has joined the firm’s Corporate & Securities practice as a partner in New York. Ms. Koren comes to Mayer Brown from the New York office of Skadden.

“Kristine brings impressive experience in private fund formation across the private equity spectrum, including leveraged buyout, credit, and infrastructure funds,” said John W. Noell Jr., the head of Mayer Brown’s global Investment Management and Fund Formation group. “She adds a dynamic and impressive component to our funds formation capability, to the immediate benefit of our clients in New York and elsewhere.”

Ms. Koren’s clients include private funds, financial services firms, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, high net worth individuals and other asset managers. She has extensive experience designing customized structures that combine features of traditional private equity and hedge funds. In addition to her fund formation work, she regularly advises clients on a broad array of matters, including seed investments in asset management firms, structuring and documenting international joint ventures, M&A, and securities regulatory matters.
“With its global platform and increasing strength in fund formation, Mayer Brown opens the door to significant new opportunities to apply my experience,” noted Ms. Koren. “In light of the firm’s strategic priority of expanding its already impressive fund formation capabilities, this was a compelling time to join Mayer Brown.”

“Following Iliana Kirova’s arrival in New York and the recent move to Mayer Brown by a fantastic team of capital markets lawyers, our successful recruitment of Kristine is additional evidence of our commitment to increasing the strength of our corporate capabilities in New York,” added Richard A. Spehr, the partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s New York office. “Given New York’s prominence as a global center of finance, our new colleagues enhance our ability to serve our clients with capital markets and fund formation needs around the world.”

An authority in her field, Ms. Koren serves as the co-chair of the New York State Bar Association’s private funds group and is an author of the leading treatise on private funds, Private Equity Funds: Business Structure and Operations, which is published by Law Journal Press. She speaks several languages, including Spanish. Ms. Koren received a JD and LLM with honors from Cornell Law School after earning her undergraduate degree from Harvard.
