Jeremy Clay named new managing partner of Mayer Brown

16 April 2018

Mayer Brown announced that Jeremy Clay has been appointed by the firm’s management committee and partnership board to the position of managing partner. Mr. Clay succeeds Kenneth S. Geller, who has decided to step down as managing partner after serving with distinction in that capacity since June 2009.

A partner in Mayer Brown’s Real Estate practice, Mr. Clay represents investors, developers and corporate clients in all kinds of structured development, investment and joint venture transactions. In June 2012, Mr. Clay was appointed to the firm’s management committee, on which he will continue to serve in his new role as managing partner. He will split his presence between Mayer Brown’s New York and London offices and also continue to maintain a role working with some of the Firm’s major real estate clients.

Mr. Geller, a partner in Mayer Brown’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice in Washington DC, built his career as a nationally renowned appellate and Supreme Court advocate. During his 23-year tenure on Mayer Brown’s management committee, and as managing partner for the past nine years, Mr. Geller has played an indispensable role in helping to build Mayer Brown into the leading global law firm that it is today. He will maintain his practice at the firm.

“I’m delighted Jeremy is taking on the role of managing partner,” noted Paul W. Theiss, the chairman of Mayer Brown. “His broad experience in the firm brings a positive dynamic perspective as we continue our evolution as a world-class, global law firm. In addition, all of us at Mayer Brown appreciate and recognize the countless contributions of my friend and colleague, Ken Geller. We’ve all come to rely on Ken’s steady and thoughtful counsel, which fortunately will continue, and the firm has been well-served by his dedicated years of service as managing partner.”

“I look forward to serving Mayer Brown as its new managing partner,” added Mr. Clay. “I am excited to join Paul at the helm and help continue the firm’s impressive growth. While the market for legal services is more competitive than ever, I share Paul’s view that our commitment to client service, professional excellence and the continued strengthening of our client relationships is the key to the continued development of Mayer Brown as one of the leading international business law firms.”
