How Much is that Data in the Window? Investment, Sharing, and IP/Privacy Pitfalls

Xiaoyan Zhang was invited to speak at an exclusive event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai), titled “How Much is that Data in the Window? Investment, Sharing, and IP/Privacy Pitfalls” on 19 September 2016 at the AmCham Shanghai Conference Centre, organised by AmCham Shanghai’s IT and Legal Committee. It attracted over 40 participants.

Together with her co-speakers Guangjie Hopton, Assistant General Counsel of Alibaba Group and Cheng Xu, Associate at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, Xiaoyan explored issues relating to data sharing transactions in the context of e-commerce, focusing on data ownership, access, contribution, service commitments, and participants’ obligations, and data ownership and access as a key commercial driver in the context of private equity and strategic investment transactions. The speakers looked at new opportunities arising from the combination of social, mobile, cloud, and information innovation, and provided tips for companies to maximise the value of data, while mitigating legal and other intellectual property risks in data transactions.
