How LNG Is Transforming the Global Energy Market: What You Need to Know—US Developments

Increases in both production and the reserve base of natural gas in the United States have proven to be a game-changer for the US energy market, with abundant gas supplies allowing companies to pursue LNG export opportunities. Indeed, the US is poised to build LNG export terminals and become a major energy exporter to the world.

The global demand for LNG is at record highs, with Asia accounting for nearly 60 percent of the global demand. With the demand for LNG also increasing in other parts of the world, such as Europe and Latin America, LNG is likely to become an internationally traded commodity.

LNG has many more complex contracting issues than does domestically produced natural gas, so the addition of more countries to the LNG trade will add to the intricate contracting, regulatory and financing issues.
