How 2016 Will Determine Tax and Trade Policy Outcomes in 2017

Clear Signs of Building a Foundation for Bipartisan Tax Reform

2016 will be a busy year in the tax and trade policy domain. Congressional policy makers have made clear that if they cannot achieve at least international tax reform in 2016 they will invest considerable time and resources this year preparing for a broader tax reform effort in 2017.

The Fate of the Trade Deals – Will Endangered Republican Incumbents Jump Ship?

On the trade front, the Obama administration will work aggressively to achieve congressional approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement in 2016 and will also try to complete negotiations with the European Union on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement. Policy makers will wrestle with a number of core trade issues in the course of rounding up the necessary support to ensure passage of TPP and closure of the TTIP negotiations.

Mayer Brown’s experienced policy advisors, Toby Moffett and Warren Payne, will walk participants through the political and policy landscape, handicap the odds of success and explain how the debate on these issues can impact a company’s bottom line.
