The new Companies Ordinance became effective today, 3 March 2014. It is a comprehensive rewrite of the previous Companies Ordinance and is intended to achieve four major objectives, namely, to enhance corporate governance, ensure better regulation, facilitate business and modernise the law. The changes and initiatives introduced by this new ordinance are extensive and will affect not only companies registered in Hong Kong but also their shareholders, directors, creditors and investors.
