2016 ABA Section of Taxation May Meeting

Tax Transactions & Consulting associate Matt McDonald (Chicago) is a panelist for "The FIRPTA Provisions of the PATH Act". This panel will address recent changes to the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act of 1980 (FIRPTA), including an expanded exemption for publicly traded REIT stock, a new exemption for REIT stock owned by qualified shareholders; and a free pass from FIRPTA altogether for certain foreign pension funds. The panel will focus on planning under the new rules, as well as a few quirks and traps for the unwary.
