Melissa Francis is a Senior Associate in Mayer Brown's Litigation practice group in New York. Melissa focuses her practice on financial services litigation, including bankruptcy proceedings, as well as securities litigation and product liability litigation. She has represented national and multinational corporations in federal and state courts. Melissa is a key member of Mayer Brown's India Practice Group.
Melissa also specializes in asylum and immigration law through her pro bono work. She has successfully represented several refugees in their asylum proceedings, including at trial, and spearheaded an office-wide relief effort to assist Haitian nationals seeking temporary legal status in the United States following the 2010 earthquake. Melissa serves as a Practice Leader for the Pro Bono Asylum and Immigration practice group, is a member of both the Pro Bono and Lateral Associates Committees, was named Mayer Brown’s 2010 International Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year, and was a recipient of Sanctuary for Families’ 2012 Above & Beyond Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Advocacy.
Melissa joined Mayer Brown in 2007, after serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Lewis R. Carluzzo on the U.S. Tax court.
