Kiran S. Desai is a partner in the Brussels office of Mayer Brown's Antitrust & Competition practice. His role is to ensure the application of competition law by governmental authorities does not hinder the natural pursuit of business to generate wealth, and so benefit society. Kiran does this by writing and speaking on evolving elements of competition policy and law, and by advising corporations on the fuzzy boundaries between legitimate business activity and breach of competition law.
In recent years his work has focused on competition and regulatory laws as they relate to network industries, local markets, government investigations, state aid and, in particular, in relation to the automotive and food sectors. He has a strong interest in the interplay between competition law and economics. He has a particular interest in the developing competition law regime in India, having spoken on competition law in India on several occasions.
Kiran is a member of Mayer Brown's Chemicals; Energy; and Life Sciences industry groups. He is a co-leader of Mayer Brown’s India Practice Group, a member of Mayer Brown's Ethics & Loss Prevention Committee and a member of its Pro Bono EU Committee.
