The International M&A Subcommittee has over 200 non-US and US corporate lawyers as members. The committee provides a forum for US and Non-US lawyers to discuss current issues and best practices in cross-border M&A transactions and produces model agreements and guides for cross-border transactions.

The newspaper noted that the firm "has brought on three new partners in the last month and is actively recruiting lawyers to bulk up its dozen-lawyer Silicon Valley outpost."

Commenting on the growth, Cabell Chinnis Jr, partner-in-charge of the Palo Alto office told the newspaper, "I think it's easier to tell a compelling story to recruits after you've been out here and garnered some established successes."

The Daily Deal noted: "He most recently headed the large and midsize business division within the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, a unit that serves 150,000 businesses that pay a total of $600 billion in taxes every year."

11 August 2003 - The Daily Journal reported "Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw has added another prominent politician and the first Republican, to its government practice in Los Angeles. Scott Baugh, a former Assembly minority leader, joined the firm...Baugh isn't the first Republican to join the firm's government practice in California. That distinction goes to Palo Alto partner Patrick Shannon, who joined the firm after serving as Gov. Pete Wilson's deputy legislative secretary from 1992 to 1995.

The newspaper noted: "Baugh, who served in the Assembly from 1995 to 2000 representing Orange County, has been reunited with former Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg at Mayer Brown. 'We've been great friends since our legislative days,' Baugh says of Hertzberg. 'this opportunity opened up, and it wasn't something I could pass up.'"

8 August 2003 - In an article "Mayer, Brown grabs pair of new partners," The Recorder reported: "Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw continued its hiring spree on the West Coast this week by hiring Altheimer & Gray partner Michael Molano and luring Ian Feinberg away from Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. The firm is also picking up John Griffith, an Altheimer associate...The trio boosts Mayer, Brown's Palo Alto ranks to 12, including eight partners."

The newspaper noted: "the newcomers arrive on the heels of an announcement last week that Larry Langdon, a longtime Hewlett-Packard Co. executive who most recently was with the Internal Revenue Service, will be joining the office later this summer as head of the firm's global tax practice." The newspaper also reported California Assemblyman Scott Baugh joining the Los Angeles office.
