Five Mayer Brown Global Trade partners recognized by Who's Who Legal

5 February 2008
February 5, 2008 - Five partners from Mayer Brown LLP, a leading international law firm, have been recognized in the International Who's Who of Trade & Customs Lawyers 2008. Paulette Vander Schueren and Edward Borovikov in Brussels are joined by Mickey Kantor, Peter Scher and Duane Layton in Washington, D.C. in this year's rankings.

"We are very proud of the growth of this team over the last several years both in the United States and Europe," said James D. Holzhauer, Chairman of Mayer Brown. The recognition of this group by Chambers and several other legal publications is a tribute to the work they perform on behalf of our global clients. "The firm's recent merger with JSM, the leading law firm in Asia, will provide us with additional opportunities to expand the group throughout Asia and enable us to increase our capabilities to provide clients with key strategic counsel on important trade issues worldwide."

The rankings were based on a survey conducted by Who's Who Legal, which spoke with and analyzed the opinions of law firm clients and trade and customs lawyers from around the world. One source said Paulette Vander Schueren is "quite excellent for customs advisory and anti-dumping work." "Top-tier" Mickey Kantor, who served as U.S. Trade Representative, also was consistently recommended by clients and peers. Edward Borovikov, Duane Layton and Peter Scher are all newcomers to the list this year. Mr. Borovikov is recommended as "very active and well known for Russia cases," as he served as the first secretary to the Russian mission to the European Commission. Mr. Layton, the head of Mayer Brown's Global Trade Group, is recognized for his "noteworthy" work with governments and industries on import relief proceedings. Peter Scher is cited as "highly regarded" by peers.

Mayer Brown's Global Trade Practice supports clients seeking to gain and maintain an advantage in the global marketplace. Practice members address a range of trade and governmental issues through strategic advice, litigation, counsel, advocacy, and representation in administrative proceedings. The team is made up of some of the most experienced senior trade professionals and lawyers from the U.S. and the European Union, several of whom have obtained international recognition for their representation of clients in trade defense and policy, customs and market access issues. Ambassador to the United States, as well as former senior U.S. trade negotiators and senior trade officials with extensive contacts with senior government officials, vast experience negotiating market opening agreements in major markets, administering trade laws and litigating trade disputes.
