Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw Bond Counsel in $10 Billion Illinois Bond Sale

| 19 June 2003 - Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw represented the State of Illinois as bond counsel in the sale of $10 billion in pension funding bonds, the largest municipal bond offering ever. The bond issue was structured as a taxable financing and sold in the domestic and international debt markets, marking a first for the State of Illinois.
Proceeds from the bond issue will be used to satisfy the State's current and future obligations to the State's public employee pension funds. The bond financing was an important element of the State's budget and plan of finance for fiscal year 2004. The Mayer Brown team working on this transaction consisted of David Narefsky, Ed Best, Joe Organ, Joanna Horsnail, and Steve Washington.
