Marcia Madsen Appointed as Chair of Panel to Improve Federal Procurement System

| 31 January 2005, Washington, D.C. -- Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP partner Marcia Madsen has been selected to chair a 14-member advisory panel mandated by Congress to review federal contracting laws, regulations, and policy. The Services Acquisitions Reform Act "SARA" panel is to develop a report within one year to Congress and the Office of Federal Procurement Policy recommending improvements in the federal procurement system.
In a letter to Ms. Madsen announcing her appointment, Administrator David Safavian stated: "With your participation, I am confident the SARA panel will make a significant contribution to the improvement of the Federal procurement system."
"I am deeply honored by this appointment," said Ms. Madsen. "We have a tight schedule but a great team to develop recommendations in such areas as commercial practices, performance-based contracting as well as government-wide acquisitions contracts."
Ms. Madsen has nearly 20 years experience in government contract law. She has served as Chair of the ABA Section of Public Contract Law and was also President of the Board of Contract Appeals Bar Association. Other panel members include:
